OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 11/28/2024, at approximately 10:40 p.m., Phoenix Police officers responded to a report of an individual harassing someone and possibly armed near 83rd Avenue and McDowell Road. Officers located a vehicle matching the description and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled. The Air Support Unit tracked the vehicle to the area of 79th Avenue and Mitchell Drive, where the driver exited and ran into a backyard. While establishing a perimeter, an officer encountered a man matching the individual's description. The man allegedly raised a handgun, prompting the officer to discharge his weapon, striking the individual. He was pronounced dead at the scene; his identity has not been released pending next-of-kin notification. A firearm was recovered at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.
