OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On November 29, 2024, at approximately 11:45 p.m., a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a white Chrysler 300 sedan for speeding on I-40 East near mile marker 317 in Johnston County. The driver, identified as 16-year-old Cohen Josef Quigley, failed to stop. Police escalated a high-speed pursuit. The chase continued onto US-301 North and into the town of Four Oaks, where the trooper lost sight of the vehicle on Baker Street. Shortly thereafter, the Chrysler was found on Hockaday Road, having crossed the center line in a curve, exited the roadway, and collided with a tree, causing the vehicle to split into multiple pieces. Quigleywas pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile passenger sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The incident remains under investigation by the NCSHP.
