On December 2, 2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Lakewood Police Department officers responded to a trespassing report at the Best Buy located at West Alaska Drive and South Vance Street in the Belmar shopping district. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man who allegedly pointed a firearm at them. The officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect. The individual was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The identities of the man and the involved officers have not been released. The Jefferson County Critical Incident Response Team is conducting an investigation into the shooting.
