On 12/05/2024, NYPD officers responded to reports of gunfire near 81 North Portland Avenue in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Witnesses reported a black Honda with a Mississippi license plate fleeing the scene. Officers located the vehicle near Fulton Street and Washington Avenue. Police escalated a pursuit as the driver ran red lights under pressure.

The pursuit ended on Utica Avenue when the vehicle became trapped in traffic. Officers approached the vehicle with weapons drawn. The male passenger, 21, allegedly pointed a firearm at officers. They opened fire, discharging up to 19 shots. The man was struck multiple times and later pronounced dead.

The female driver, 23, exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended after a brief chase. Police fired shots, causing her to have two gunshot wounds to her right thigh. She was transported to a hospital for treatment before being taken into custody.

A 3-year-old girl who had been present during the police shootings was found physically unharmed in the back seat of the vehicle and was transported to a hospital for evaluation.
