OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 12/07/2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., a Boone County Sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a registration violation near Clark Lane and Ballenger Lane in Columbia. The vehicle did not stop, and the deputy allegedly lost sight of it. Immediately thereafter, a report was received of a vehicle crashing through a fence near Highway PP and East Palmer Road. The vehicle was later spotted traveling westbound on Mexico Gravel Road. A deputy attempted another traffic stop, but the vehicle accelerated onto North Hinkson Creek Road, where it crashed into a wooded area. The driver fled on foot and remains at large. The passenger, a 32-year-old male from Columbia, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and pronounced deceased at the scene. Drones and K-9 units were deployed to locate the driver, but as of the latest update, the individual has not been apprehended.
