On December 8, 2024, officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a suicidal man at the South Point Hotel and Casino on South Las Vegas Boulevard. Hotel security attempted a welfare check after receiving concerning reports about the individual but were unable to make contact. During their attempts, security staff heard the sound of a firearm being racked and contacted law enforcement for assistance.

Upon arrival, officers declared the situation as a barricade and deployed SWAT officers and crisis negotiators. Despite repeated attempts to communicate with Cesar Reyes II, he remained unresponsive. Several hours into the standoff, SWAT officers used an explosive breach to gain entry into the room. Reyes exited the room armed with a shotgun and ran down the hallway.

Reyes allegedly charged toward Officer Zachary Adam and another officer. Officer Adam fired his weapon, striking Reyes. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

This marks the 16th officer-involved shooting in LVMPD's jurisdiction in 2024. The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by LVMPD's Force Investigation Team.
