On 12/16/2024, the Madison County Sheriff's Office attempted a traffic stop near mile marker 89 on Interstate 40 in Jackson, Tennessee. The driver failed to stop, leading to a 30-minute pursuit on nearby roads. The suspect attempted to re-enter I-40 from Law Road, exited the vehicle, and fled on foot across the interstate. During the foot chase, a deputy deployed a taser, after which the suspect fired a handgun at deputies. Four deputies returned fire, fatally striking the suspect. A second individual in the vehicle was taken into custody. No officers were injured. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is conducting the investigation.
