On December 20, 2024, the U.S. Marshals Service's Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST), in collaboration with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, attempted to serve a warrant for felonious assault at an apartment complex on Bellcreek Lane in Trotwood, Ohio. Upon arrival, the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Leo Lucas, fired at the officers, striking one in the leg. The injured officer was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A standoff ensued, during which law enforcement deployed concussion grenades and distraction devices. After several hours, Lucas was found deceased inside the apartment from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. No officers discharged their weapons during the incident. The Montgomery County Coroner's Office later confirmed Lucas's identity.
