OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On December 7, 2021, at approximately 5:43 p.m., Sergeant Chris Lewis of the Elizabethtown Police Department responded to a domestic violence investigation on Pleasant View Drive. Upon arrival, Sergeant Lewis encountered Gary McCormick. An altercation ensued, during which McCormick disarmed Sergeant Lewis of his taser and attempted to use it on him. In response, Sergeant Lewis discharged his firearm, fatally wounding McCormick. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner.
