On July 8, 2021, Shannon M. Wilcox, aged 53, was involved in an armed disturbance in Presque Isle, Maine. During the standoff, police alleged that Wilcox threatened them with a firearm. Sergeant Matthew Cummings of the Aroostook County Sheriff's Office opened fire, killing Wilcox.
