OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 12/28/2024, Columbia Police responded to a shooting incident at Cross Hill Apartments, located in the 4400 block of Blossom Street. Officers discovered that a woman had been shot in the lower body. The individual allegedly transported the victim to the hospital and then threatened to harm children and himself. Police began searching for the vehicle involved, which was located behind a business in the 4000 block of Leesburg Road. After officers attempted to make contact, the individual fled. Officers escalated to chase by both CPD officers and Richland County Sheriff's Deputies. The pursuit ended in a crash at the intersection of Garners Ferry and Hazelwood roads, resulting in the death of a bystander and his dog.The victim from the initial shooting is expected to survive. The South Carolina Highway Patrol’s Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team is handling the crash investigation.
