OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On December 26, 2024, at approximately 4: 45 p.m., a Leavenworth County sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a registration violation on County Road #1. The driver, identified as 31-year-old Brian Trober, did not stop. Police escalated a chase onto Interstate 70 where Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) then took over the pursuit after determining the vehicle was reported stolen. Approximately 20 minutes after the initial stop, Trober lost control of the vehicle while exiting from eastbound I-70 to southbound I-635. The vehicle struck a guardrail, overturned, and descended a rock embankment, coming to rest in a ditch. Trober was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
