On August 14, 2021, around 2 p.m., deputies from the Scott County Sheriff's Office received multiple reports of gunfire directed at workers at Mt. Zion Church on Blossom Hill Road. Upon arrival, they confronted Robert D. Bailey from a tree line across from the church and a nearby home. The deputies discharged their weapons, resulting in Bailey's death.
