On December 27, 2024, Miami Police Department officers responded to a disturbance call at an apartment complex near C St SE and 1st St SE in Miami, Oklahoma. Upon arrival, officers encountered 49-year-old Jason Wilkins, who was holding a metal spike. Police alleged that Wilkins advanced toward an officer, leading the officer to fire, killing him. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation.
