On January 2, 2025, officers attempted to apprehend 27-year-old Kobie Davis wanted in connection with a residential arson investigation in Salt Lake City. He did not stop. Officers escalated a high-speed pursuit through multiple counties in Utah in the Salt Lake area. The man allegedly fired several rounds at officers chasing him. Police deployed spike strips. The pursuit ended at approximately 12:30 AM on January 3, 2025, when he crashed his truck at a high rate of speed near 12400 South Redwood Road in Riverton, causing the vehicle to overturn. Police engaged him in a shootout and killed him.
