OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On October 10, 2021, at approximately 6 p.m., Brunswick County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call at 8627 Wanets Landing Road in Leland, North Carolina. Linda Beck reported that her husband, 57-year-old Michael Robert Beck, had discharged a firearm in her direction twice and warned that he might act violently when deputies arrived. Deputies located Beck on the back deck of the residence. He reportedly produced a firearm and pointed it toward the deputies. Despite multiple commands to drop the weapon, Beck allegedly failed to comply. Two deputies discharged their firearms, fatally striking him.

The Brunswick County District Attorney's Office, in collaboration with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, reviewed the case and determined the deputies were legally justified in their use of deadly force.
