On May 25, 2021, Goldsboro Police became aware of a speeding driver on NC-70. An unmarked police cruiser, with lights and sirens activated, pursued a pickup truck driven by 39-year-old Christopher Kelly Blair. Blair did not stop and collided with a white sedan, pushing it into another truck.

Ariel Miramon Soriano, a 3-year-old child in a car seat in the back seat of the white sedan, was killed in the crash. The Goldsboro Police Department is investigating their involvement in the pursuit and the events leading to the collision.
