The initial call indicated a man and woman were arguing, with the woman reporting that the man, later identified as 26-year-old Kyle Anthony Veyon, had a knife.

Police encountered Veyon holding a kitchen knife. Police allege that Veyon advanced toward the woman. Police fired a taser, then a gun, killing himThe Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) conducted an investigation into the incident. A Franklin County grand jury later voted not to indict Officer Hawkins, concluding that deadly force was justified.
