OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On December 21, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Erwin Police Department officers responded to a report of a barking dog at a residence in the 600 block of Maple Avenue in Erwin, Tennessee. Upon approaching the front door and knocking, officers reportedly heard the sound of a shotgun being racked before the door opened. Officers commanded the individual, identified as 51-year-old Grady Evan McIntosh, to put the gun down. For reasons under investigation, the situation escalated, resulting in at least two officers discharging their firearms, striking McIntosh. He was transported to a hospital in Johnson City, where he was pronounced dead. No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is conducting an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
