On January 5, 2025, the Marshall County Sheriff's Department escalated a chase for unknown reasons that led to a high-speed pursuit ending in a fatal crash at the intersection of US 78 and MS 309 in Byhalia, Mississippi. The vehicle being chased collided with another car at the intersection, killing the driver and one passenger of the pursuit vehicle. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating.
