On August 28, 2021, around 9 p.m., Fort Smith Police pursued a stolen box truck occupied by a male driver and a female passenger into Arkoma, Oklahoma. The Arkoma Police Department intervened, attempting to stop the vehicle on Echols Street. The man allegedly rammed a police car and continued driving, nearly running over an officer. Officers fired shots, fatally wounding the driver.
