OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On May 30, 2021, around 2:45 a.m., Pushmataha County Sheriff's deputies conducted a traffic stop on 48-year-old Hank Miller near Coffee Creek Road in Antlers, Oklahoma, citing an obstructed license plate.
.
After initial contact, Miller drove away. Police pursued him to his home. Upon arrival, deputies attempted to remove a female passenger from the vehicle. During this interaction, Miller allegedly attempted to flee again, reportedly striking a deputy with his vehicle. In response, another deputy fired multiple shots, fatally wounding Miller.
.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) reported that Miller died at the home, and the injured deputy was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
.
Subsequent body camera footage released by the family's attorney appeared to contradict initial reports, leading to a federal civil rights lawsuit filed by Miller's family against the sheriff and deputies involved.
