On Sunday June 4, 2023, at 8:56 p.m., the San Diego PD received a radio call of a disturbance involving a male with what was believed to be a firearm on the trolley traveling south towards the San Ysidro Trolley Station. Two officers arrived and Mauricio Sanchez Ramos then began to advance towards the officers and pointed what police believed to be a firearm at them. Officers fired multiple rounds from a high-powered rifle and killed him.
