On January 17, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a man acting erratically on Lincoln Drive in Englewood, Florida. Deputies arrived at the scene and encountered 36-year-old Shawn Austin Ravert carrying a machete. Police alleged that he moved toward them. Deputies opened fire, killing him. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the critical incident.
