On January 4, 2025, deputies from the Wilkinson County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 40-year-old Steven Antoine Dean, who was wanted on a felony child molestation warrant. Dean failed to stop, initiating a high-speed pursuit. Deputies performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, causing the vehicle to overturn. Dean was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the incident.
