OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On December 17, 2024, at approximately 8:50 p.m., corrections deputies at the Millard County Jail, located at 765 South Hwy 99, Fillmore, Utah, found 39-year-old Casey Michael Schuurman unresponsive in his cell during a routine check. Emergency medical services were called to transport Schuurman to Fillmore Community Hospital. Despite continued life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Schuurman had been arrested on December 9, 2024, following a fatal accident and had spent eight days in custody before his death. The Millard County Sheriff's Office has requested an independent investigation by the Iron-Garfield-Beaver-Kane Critical Incident Task Force, which is standard protocol. No foul play is suspected. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the official cause and manner of death.
