OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On December 31, 2024, at approximately 9:34 p.m., Arthur Bankston II, a 53-year-old male from Zion, Illinois, was found unresponsive in his cell at the Lake County Jail in Waukegan. A corrections officer discovered him during routine rounds and immediately called a medical emergency. Jail medical staff responded promptly, and the Waukegan Fire Department was also called to the scene. Despite prolonged life-saving efforts, Bankston was pronounced dead. He had been remanded to the jail on December 30, 2024, for a drug-related charge and had reported terminal underlying health conditions. An autopsy revealed no suspicious marks or injuries. The Lake County Major Crime Task Force is conducting an independent investigation, and the incident will be scheduled for a coroner’s inquest upon completion of the investigation.
