On January 17, 2025, Tulsa Police Department officers responded to a 911 call from a 14-year-old who reported that 38-year-old Gerardo Almazan had robbed him at gunpoint and taken his phone. Officers arrived at a residence near East Pine Street and North Sheridan Road, where Almazan had retreated and refused to exit despite a prolonged standoff. After several hours, Almazan emerged from the house with a woman and a firearm, approaching officers. Police shot and killed Almazan. No officers, the teenager, or the woman were injured during the incident.
