On January 24, 2025, Fountain Valley Police officers responded to reports of a man attempting to break into vehicles, including an occupied vehicle, on Mateo Street in Fountain Valley, California. When officers arrived, the man entered a police vehicle and was armed with a gun. Officers opened fire, and the man was pronounced dead on site.
