On 01/24/2025, Bensalem Police conducted a traffic stop near Route 1 and Old Lincoln Highway. After a 45-minute standoff, the driver drove away, prompting police to escalate a chase that ended at Bristol Pike and Penn Street. A second standoff began, during which police deployed tear gas. As officers fired a second round of tear gas, the driver allegedly pointed a handgun at officers. Police opened fire, striking the driver, who was pronounced dead at Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital. The passenger was also struck during the shooting but survived and was taken into custody.
