OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/28/2023, detectives with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office obtained probable cause to arrest 32-year-old Lance Darren Goodall Jr., owner of Venom Fitness in Osprey, on three counts of sexual battery by a person in a position of custodial authority. The investigation began after the father of a 14-year-old student reported finding videos, photographs, and messages documenting alleged sexual abuse on the child's phone. Detectives determined the alleged abuse occurred at Goodall's martial arts gym, where the victim had trained since 2021.
As Manatee County Sheriff's Office investigators attempted to contact Goodall at his residence in Lakewood Ranch to arrest him, they found him dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities said the death occurred before he could be taken into custody. The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office continued its investigation and asked any additional potential victims or witnesses to come forward. Court documents later reported that Goodall had previously sent the victim messages stating he would kill himself if he were ever caught and included a photograph of a handgun.
