On 12/10/2021, Bowie County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a suicidal man at 6588 FM 44 in Simms, Texas. Upon arrival, they encountered 59-year-old Mark Robert Peters, who was armed and reportedly threatening self-harm. During the ensuing standoff, Peters allegedly pointed his firearm at the deputies, prompting one deputy to discharge his weapon, striking Peters. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
