OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/27/2023, at approximately 6:40 p.m., Boise Police Department officers responded to reports of shots being fired in the 700 block of North 20th Street. Officers arrived and encountered 28-year-old Macey Juker, who investigators said was armed with a rifle. According to Boise Police, Juker had fired multiple rounds in the neighborhood before officers arrived. Police stated that during the encounter, Juker pointed and fired the rifle toward responding officers. Six Boise officers—Sgt. J. Pietrzak, Sgt. K. Rush, Officer R. Pollard, C. Fiddler, D. Rogers, and C. Sousa—fired their weapons, striking Juker. Officers rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived, but Juker was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Critical Incident Task Force, led by the Ada County Sheriff's Office, investigated the shooting. In December 2023, Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts concluded that the officers' use of deadly force was legally justified under Idaho law and declined to file criminal charges. Body-worn camera footage and investigative materials were released following completion of the investigation.
