On January 25, 2025, 39-year-old security guard Anthony Egeonu was fatally shot while on duty at a CVS Pharmacy on Main Street in Dallas, Texas. According to the Dallas Police Department, a 13-year-old and a 15-year-old entered the store, purchased a prepaid cellphone card, and then began shoplifting. When Egeonu attempted to stop them, the 13-year-old suspect drew a firearm and shot him. Both juveniles fled the scene in a white Kia but were apprehended the following day. The incident has raised community concerns about safety and youth involvement in violent crimes.
