OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On January 29, 2025, officers from the Pendleton Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a man walking along Interstate 69 near State Road 38 in Pendleton, Indiana. Upon approaching the individual to ensure his safety, the man produced a knife from his jacket pocket and advanced toward the officers. Commands to drop the weapon were ignored. A Madison County sheriff's deputy deployed a Taser, which was ineffective. Subsequently, a Pendleton police officer fired one shot, striking the man. The officers administered aid, and the individual was transported to IU Health Saxony Hospital in Fishers, where he was pronounced dead. The incident is under investigation.
