OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/25/2023, a Westminster Police Department officer on routine patrol observed a silver SUV stopped near the intersection of 88th Avenue and Lamar Drive. The officer approached the vehicle to check on the driver, who was later identified as 46-year-old Alysha Duran. During the encounter, police stated that Duran was armed with a handgun inside the vehicle.
According to investigators, the officer gave repeated commands before firing his weapon. Duran was struck and pronounced dead at the scene. A handgun was recovered from inside the SUV. No officers were physically injured during the encounter.
The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team investigated the shooting. In August 2023, Westminster Police released body-worn camera footage and additional evidence from the incident. In April 2024, the Adams County District Attorney concluded that the officer's use of deadly force was legally justified under Colorado law and declined to file criminal charges.
