On January 29, 2025, at the Yacht Haven Park & Marina in Fort Lauderdale, an off-duty Fort Lauderdale Police Department lieutenant was informed by the property manager of a disturbance involving 49-year-old Damian Orozco. Witnesses reported that during the encounter, the officer shot Orozco, who was upset about being relocated to another campsite lacking proper sewage and power connections. Orozco was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.
