OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On January 30, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Lake Worth Police Department’s Special Operations Unit conducted a traffic stop for a moving violation. The male driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, allegedly began shooting at officers shortly after being stopped. It is not disclosed what led to this. The driver continued driving and later crashed into the backyard of a home near Sansom Park before continuing into Fort Worth and stopping at a residence in the 1700 block of Skyline Drive. The man locked himself inside the home.
Lake Worth police SWAT established a perimeter and escalated a standoff. A woman, believed to be his mother, exited the home. After several hours, the man emerged with a gun to his head and refused officers’ commands to disarm. SWAT officers fired beanbag rounds, and he fired a shot toward them. A Fort Worth SWAT officer opened fire, killing him.
The Fort Worth Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division is investigating the shooting, with oversight from the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.
