On 07/24/2023, Allentown Police Department officers responded to the area of North 6th Street and Turner Street after receiving reports of a man displaying a handgun. Officers encountered 27-year-old Dominick Hogans, who ran from police, leading to a foot pursuit through the neighborhood.
According to investigators, Hogans produced a handgun during the chase, pointed it toward officers, and fired multiple shots. Officers returned fire, striking Hogans. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No officers were struck by the gunfire.
The Lehigh County District Attorney's Office and the Pennsylvania State Police investigated the shooting. In October 2023, District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan concluded that the officers' use of deadly force was legally justified under Pennsylvania law and declined to file criminal charges.
