On February 4, 2025, Alexander Andre Mathis was reported to be carrying a handgun near the intersection of Lone Mountain Road and Camino Al Norte. When approached by Officer Jason Roscow of the North Las Vegas Police Department, Mathis disobeyed commands to stop and opened fire, leading to a shootout. Both Mathis and Officer Roscow sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at UMC Trauma Center. Mathis' family expressed shock, noting that it was out of character for him to possess a firearm.
