On February 4, 2025, Salina Police Department officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance involving a male barricaded inside a residence with a child. After negotiations failed, the situation escalated, leading officers to open fire and fatally wound the individual. The child was rescued unharmed. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is conducting an inquiry into the incident.
