OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On February 6, 2025, around 1:30 p.m., a Labette County Sheriff's deputy observed a tan Ford F-150, driven by 52-year-old John H. Jones, run a stop sign at 20000 and Wallace Road near Oswego, Kansas. Upon noticing the deputy, Jones attempted evasive maneuvers, including driving through a field, and then fled northbound on Wallace Road at speeds exceeding 100 mph. During the pursuit, Jones forced multiple motorists off the road and attempted to ram the deputy's vehicle. He failed to negotiate a curve near 22097 Wallace Road, resulting in a collision with a tree. Jones was transported to Labette Health, where he died from his injuries. Authorities later discovered that Jones was driving with a suspended license and had outstanding warrants in Montgomery and Neosho counties. He also had prior convictions for aggravated burglary, theft, criminal threat, obstruction, and multiple drug-related offenses.
