On February 5, 2025, Mexia Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire in Mexia, Texas. Upon arrival, they were met with gunfire from a male suspect, later identified as Darius Brewer. A gunfight ensued, during which Brewer retreated to a nearby residence, leading to a standoff situation. The SWAT team was deployed, and after attempts to negotiate, they entered the residence and found Brewer deceased from gunshot wounds sustained during the earlier exchange. The incident is under investigation by the Mexia Police Department and the Texas Rangers.
