On June 25, 2021, around 3:30 p.m., a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper conducted a traffic stop on Sinks Canyon Road near Lander. During the stop, the trooper and 24-year-old David Leon Fann exchanged gunfire. Fann was killed in the exchange, and the trooper was wounded.
