OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On February 6, 2025, San Antonio Police Department officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle in downtown San Antonio. The driver, 19-year-old Nathaniel Moreno, refused to stop. Officers deployed spike strips and boxed in the vehicle. Moreno then backed into multiple vehicles and drove toward officers. Police opened fire. The vehicle continued down Commerce Street, struck a building, and caught fire. Moreno was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. A 15-year-old passenger, Nicholas Rodriguez, was critically injured and later died from his injuries on February 8, 2025. The incident is under investigation.
