On November 18, 2021, 34-year-old Antonia Lee Crum was found deceased at the America's Best Value Inn in West Melbourne, Florida. Emmanuel Joe Ayala, 35, initially cooperated with investigators but later ceased communication. Authorities located Ayala in Palm Bay and obtained a search warrant for his residence. Upon arrival, Ayala armed himself and barricaded himself inside his home. After several hours of negotiation, Ayala died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation into Crum's death remains open.
