On January 29, 2025, around 4:30 p.m., officers from the Pendleton Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a man walking along Interstate 69 near State Road 38 in Pendleton, Indiana. Upon arrival, officers encountered 33-year-old Blake Lawrence Brown of Anderson. When officers approached to ensure his safety, Brown reportedly drew a knife from his jacket pocket and advanced toward them. A Madison County sheriff's deputy deployed a Taser, which was ineffective. Subsequently, a Pendleton police officer discharged their firearm, striking Brown. Officers administered immediate medical aid, and Brown was transported to IU Health Saxony Hospital in Fishers, where he was pronounced dead. The involved officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
