OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On February 10, 2025, at approximately 1:36 a.m., an officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a silver Dodge Dart for suspected driving under the influence on Highway 111 in Putnam County. The driver refused to stop. Officers escalated a chase and were joined by other deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. During the chase, the man was seen with what is believed to be a gun and threw items from the vehicle. The pursuit ended in a wooded median near mile marker 294 on Interstate 40 W, where under unclear circumstances, the situation escalated. Deputies opened fire and killed him. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.
