On February 10, 2025, at approximately 5 p.m., deputies from the Lyon County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic violence call at a residence in the 3200 block of Spring Circle in Silver Springs, Nevada. Upon arrival, they encountered a male individual who informed them that 38-year-old Haylie Baggett had barricaded herself in a bedroom with her 3-year-old child. Deputies attempted to communicate with Baggett through the closed door, urging her to exit safely with the child. After several minutes without cooperation and fearing for the child's safety, deputies forced entry into the bedroom. Unbeknownst to them, Baggett was armed with a handgun. As they entered, she fatally shot her child before turning the weapon on herself. Deputies immediately initiated lifesaving measures and summoned emergency medical services. The child was airlifted to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno but was later pronounced deceased. This tragic event has profoundly affected the family, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, and the broader community. The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from the Nevada State Police and Central Lyon County Fire Department.
