On January 31, 2025, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Lancaster City Police responded to reports of an attempted robbery at the M&T Bank located in the 500 block of North Duke Street. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Luis Alex Fuentes, allegedly entered the bank with a machete and demanded money. Fuentes fled in a vehicle. Officers escalated a pursuit that concluded when Fuentes exited his vehicle and, according to authorities, advanced toward a bystander while still armed with the machete. An officer shot Fuentes in the back. He was transported to Lancaster General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Lancaster County District Attorney's Office is conducting an investigation into the incident.
